Essential Travel Tips for Egypt 2026

First time in Egypt? Here's what Misk Tours recommends to every traveler before they arrive.

Use Local Cash

Egyptian Pounds (EGP) are essential for bazaars, street food, and tips. ATMs are available at Cairo airport and Naama Bay. Avoid hotel exchange desks — rates run 10–15% worse than airport banks.

Dress Modestly

Cover shoulders and knees at mosques and temples. Women should carry a light scarf for religious sites. Shorts are acceptable in Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada resort areas but not at heritage or religious sites.

Drink Bottled Water

Tap water is not safe for tourists. All Misk Tours trips include bottled water, but carry extra when exploring solo. Skip street-stall ice and always choose factory-sealed drinks — dehydration in Egypt’s heat sets in fast.

Wear SPF 50+

Egypt’s UV index hits 10–11 year-round — even in winter. Apply SPF 50+ daily, reapply every two hours outdoors, and use reef-safe sunscreen on all snorkeling and diving excursions to protect Ras Mohammed’s coral.

Buy a SIM

Pick up a Vodafone, Orange, or WE SIM at Cairo Airport for $5–10. You’ll get reliable 4G across Egypt — essential for Google Maps, staying in touch with your driver, and avoiding costly roaming charges throughout your trip.

Pre-Book Attractions

Pyramids, Grand Egyptian Museum, and Valley of the Kings all use timed-entry in 2026. Peak slots sell out days ahead, especially October–November and March–April. Misk Tours secures all tickets before you arrive in Egypt.

Best Time to Visit Egypt in 2026

Egypt's climate varies significantly by season. Here's when to go based on your priorities.

Autumn October – November 22–33°C

Egypt's golden window: 22°C–29°C, perfect visibility, stunning photography light, and the Abu Simbel Sun Festival in October. Book well ahead.

Winter December – February 10–22°C

Egypt's golden season: 22°C–29°C weather, clear visibility, ideal photography conditions, and the October Abu Simbel Sun Festival. Book early.

Spring March – May 18–32°C

Warm weather, fewer crowds, and excellent photography conditions. Book 4–6 weeks ahead. Pack a light scarf for April–May sandstorms.

Summer June – August 32–42°C

Low prices, empty sites, and peak Red Sea visibility. Cairo hits 40°C+ — plan early mornings and evenings. Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada remain ideal year-round.
