7-Day Cairo & Nile Cruise Tour by Flight
- 3 nights Cairo
- 3 nights Nile cruise
- Domestic flights included

Seven to nine days is the length most of our guests choose for a first visit to Egypt: the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, then a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, with domestic flights in between. These 5 private packages start from $1,020 per person, and an Egyptologist guides every day. Is 7 days enough? For Cairo plus a 3-night Nile cruise, yes. The trade-off is that the cruise takes three of the six nights, which leaves three in Cairo. The 8 and 9 day packages add Abu Simbel, Hurghada or Alexandria.
Each package is private: your own Egyptologist guide, a private air-conditioned vehicle, entrance fees for the sites on the itinerary and the domestic flights between cities. Jump to a length below, or compare all 5 packages in the table.
The shortest route that joins Cairo and a Nile cruise: three nights in Cairo and three on the river between Aswan and Luxor, with a flight each way. Day 1 is your arrival and day 7 is departure.
Both 8 day packages follow the same route: three nights in Cairo and four on the Nile from Luxor to Aswan. The difference is Abu Simbel, which is part of day 7 in one package and an optional extra in the other.
The ninth day takes the trip beyond the classic route, in one of two directions: two nights on the Red Sea in Hurghada, or five nights based in Cairo with a day trip to Alexandria. Both include a three-night Nile cruise.
Nights, stops and flights are read from each package's itinerary, so the table matches the tour pages.

How to read it: day 1 is your arrival night and the last day is departure with no night, so a 7 day package has 6 nights. 'From' is the lowest rate in the package's price table, per person.
For a first visit built around Cairo and the Nile, yes, with one trade-off. The 7 day package has six nights: three in Cairo (two at the start and one before your flight home) and three on a Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor. That is enough for the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Khan El Khalili, then Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu and the East and West Banks of Luxor.
What a week does not leave room for is a day trip to Alexandria, Abu Simbel or the Red Sea. If one of those matters to you, look at the 8 and 9 day packages on this page, or read our guide on how many days you need in Egypt.
The 8th day is a fourth night on the Nile. In both 8 day packages the cruise sails from Luxor to Aswan for four nights, and you fly from Cairo to Luxor to join it. One package, the 8 day with Abu Simbel, includes the Abu Simbel temples on day 7, on your way back to Cairo; the other lists Abu Simbel as an optional tour. Read more in our Abu Simbel guide.
The 9th day goes beyond the classic route. The Hurghada package keeps a three-night cruise and adds two nights on the Red Sea. The Alexandria package keeps the same cruise and spends five nights in Cairo, with a full day trip to Alexandria on day 4. To compare cruise lengths, see our guides to the 3 night and 4 night Nile cruise.
One line per package, taken from what its itinerary includes.
Travellers with one week who want Cairo and a Nile cruise on the shortest route.
Travellers who want a fourth night on the Nile and a cruise that runs from Luxor to Aswan.
Travellers for whom Abu Simbel is a must: it is built into day 7, on the way back to Cairo.
Travellers who want to end the trip with two relaxed nights by the Red Sea in Hurghada.
Travellers who want more time in Cairo, with a full day trip to Alexandria.
These inclusions apply to all 5 packages. Each tour page lists its own nights and meals.
Meals are listed day by day on each tour page. The 8 day packages, for example, list 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches and 4 dinners.
The from prices on this page run from $1,020 to $1,610 per person, depending on the package. A from price is the lowest rate in that package's price table: some packages show a single per-person rate, while others have a table by group size and season, so check the tour page for your own party. International flights, the Egypt visa and tips are not included.

Ask A Travel ExpertA week is enough for a classic first visit. The 7 day package gives three nights in Cairo and three on a Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor, with flights between the cities. It does not include Alexandria, Abu Simbel or the Red Sea, so add a day or two if one of those matters to you. Our guide on how many days you need in Egypt compares the options.
Three. Day 1 is your arrival night in Cairo, so a 7 day trip has six nights: three in Cairo and three on the cruise from Aswan to Luxor. The two 8 day packages have four cruise nights and sail from Luxor to Aswan, and the two 9 day packages have three.
They share the same route: three nights in Cairo and four on the Nile from Luxor to Aswan, with flights from Cairo to Luxor and from Aswan back to Cairo. The 8 day package with Abu Simbel (from $1,250) includes the temples on day 7. The all-inclusive 8 day package (from $1,220) lists Abu Simbel as an optional tour.

Abu Simbel is part of the 8 day package with Abu Simbel and an optional extra on the all-inclusive 8 day tour. Hurghada is built into the 9 day Hurghada package, with two nights by the Red Sea. For any other combination, ask for a tailor-made trip.
